One of the hardest challenges of moving into a retirement community is that most forms of housing available in assisted living Tyler communities are smaller, usually much smaller than the new resident’s old home, which means that the first step during the preparations for the move should be decluttering. However, getting rid of old belongings that bring back memories and hold emotional value is usually very difficult at any age – here are some tips to make the process easier:
- Plan for the new space – find out the exact measurements of your new home, then measure the components of your current layout and figure out exactly what can fit into the new apartment;
- Donate your old stuff or organize a garage sale – knowing that the items you cannot take with you will be useful for someone else is a great feeling and the money is always welcome;
- Don’t keep broken items – even if you are emotionally attached to certain items, if they are broken, they will only hold back, so it is a good idea to get rid of them;
- Take your time – do not exhaust yourself while decluttering, 15 minutes or half an hour a day should be enough.
