Welcome to the “Real Texas”!
The Craig is located at the heart of the beautiful city of Amarillo. Many refer to Amarillo as the “Real Texas,” because of its reverent “old Texas” roots. Even today, the working ranches continue to operate the same way as they did in the late nineteenth century.
In addition to its strong western heritage, Amarillo offers a thriving arts and entertainment scene. There’s so much to do…you can take your grandchildren to the Zoo, or wander through the Amarillo Botanical Gardens. Experience the Amarillo history at one of the eight well-known museums. Over 190,000 people have made Amarillo their home, making it the largest city in the Texas Panhandle. Amarillo provides a welcoming community-feel, with many opportunities available to both residents and visitors. The strong and continually growing economy attracts newcomers of all ages.
Amarillo, named after the Spanish word for yellow, first became a town in 1887 when the Fort Worth-Denver City railroad was constructed. The city served as a regional medical center, and advancements in the energy industry and agriculture helped to drive the economy, which continues to grow steadily today.
